CSULA Fall 2018. End of Fall Semester Final Reflection Post #15

Volition required...

Attending graduate school has been an awesome, rewarding, and exciting journey...I am so blessed!! I learned how to create QR codes, infographs, digital images using photoshop, google spreadsheets, and professional organization surveys. I also learned how to make teaching videos using via screencasting site and YouTube. This semester flew by...yet, I was able to learn so much! I find that in order to be successful in any technology related degree one must not only be able to master self-motivation, but one must be able to master volition. One must have a very clear intention of one's wills and future goals/plans.

Check out this mini Adobe Spark video...

Google Spreadsheets

google share GIF

Yet another amazing google resource we can use freely and for free...It had been a while since I last used spreadsheets to create any document...I was a bit rustic, but I guess is true what they say...once you learn something it is hard to forget. The functions can be a bit daunting, however, with a little practice one can create awesome spreadsheets on google. Much like other google resource, these spreadsheets can be shared for others to use, edit, etc. I will no longer balance my budget with my cell calculator, instead I will create a budget spreadsheet and make my life easier...I should probably make another spreadsheet to balance my daily calorie intake. Give it a try! is free...

Adobe Spark Features

If you are ever fortunate enough to have access to any adobe product allow me to recommend adobe spark. Some of the things you can create on adobe spark include: Making a web story, making a video,  and even a spark page! Adobe spark is an integrated suite of storytelling applications for the mobile and web. It comprises three separate design apps. Can you guess what they are? Yes, page, post, and video. Spark, unlike other adobe products, is user friendly. I would say, if you can write an email, then you can create either a page, a post or a video...and not just any page, post or video, but professionally looking pages, posts and videos. Not convinced yet? take a listen...and take a look...

CSULA Fall 2018. Reflection Post #11

Technology, as we have all experience at some point or other in our lives, is very dynamic, thus, it is up to us to stay current in this field. With power comes responsibility, hence, we must ensure that the information we are sharing with the world is accurate. Let us not take for granted the amazing opportunity to expand our knowledge and to share it responsibly with the world.

Additionally, since this field is so dynamic it is imperative that anyone entering into this field remains current with technology by continuously taking courses related to technology and by reading any updates related to technology.

CC and Speed Selection on YouTube

I have learned yet another exciting helpful information regarding closed captioning and speed selection within YouTube. CC has three options for adding transcribed captions to any videos one is uploading. The first option is to copy and paste the video script into caption text. The next option is to create auto captions and connect the errors. Last, is the auto sync, where you listen to your video and the moment you start typing the script, the video stops playing. I find the last method to be more effective. Additionally, there are times when one is watching YouTube videos where the speaker is either speaking too slow or too fast. It can be quite a predicament, however, if you click on the bottom right on settings you can choose the speed at which you want the video you are watching to run. You select the speed. This can be highly beneficial. I love having the option to choose.

Prezi Lesson Presentation 4300

Please know that all prezi requires for users to create an account is an email address or you can login in with your facebook account. Also, be sure to select the basic package which is free. Having said that, let me share with that I am, for the first time ever, creating a lesson plan using prezi instead of the traditional Power Point. I had heard of prezi before and always wanted to try it myself, and now that I am I find it very lively. Prezi is relatively easy to navigate. The site has templates for novice and for more skilled users. I have decided to try both just to see the difference. Try it yourself and see if you can identify the differences, if any. I found no differences.

All about Java

Java is the main programming language with android programing applications and is relatively easy to learn...and so that is the belief. Java started in 1991. Java is n object-oriented programming language, thus it is organized in objects and data. Steve jobs once said "objects encapsulate complexity", many times we don't know the specifics of a certain request or action, but the objects handling the complex request does. Java uses getters and setters to create simple language code. Java is also believed to be unreliable as it can be a security threat on your PC. My humble suggestion: Only download and run Java if absolutely needed. Take a look at this tutorial.

What is Lorem Ipsum and is it something we can use?

I am certain this is perhaps the first time you have heard this term, it is the first time for me, and so of course I had to find out what exacly Lorem Ipsum was. After reading a few articles I found out that Lorem Ipsum actually "refers to text that the DTP (Desktop Publishing) industry use as replacement text when the real text is not available. ... Lorem Ipsum is dummy text which has no meaning however looks very similar to real text". Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English.

In other words, just ignore lorem ipsum and replace with your own text...your own words...

Are you ready to leave behind your comfort zone and try prezi? I know I am.

I have used power-point for all my presentations since...always...and every time I want to give prezi, canva, nearpod, google slides, or any other software alternative to the traditional power point the students, teachers, and or people I collaborate with are resistant to change? Let me just say that when collaborating in a group the worst part is not agreeing on selecting what kind of format will be utilized for the presentation, but rather, the collaborating altogether. Nevertheless, I love group collaboration as it helps me polish and improve my interpersonal skills. Polishing and improving ones skills is sort of similar to trying different alternatives...sort of thinking outside the box...thus, trying different alternatives to the traditional power point can be a bit daunting, but is worth a try. Let us leave our comfort zone behind...

So, what is cloud computing?

You may have heard about cloud computing and may have wondered what exactly does it do? Cloud computing is an internet based storage service. You can either upload or download files and or content onto or from the cloud. Cloud computing is sort of like the google drive we have become so accustomed to...or more recently, adobe. Is very simple to use and is free. All you need is to access www.dropbox.com and either register or use your gmail email address to login. You can share files and documents with anyone by either sharing a link or clicking share on the document or file you want to share. Any content you have stored on the cloud can be accessed from any computer. So, please create a strong password in order to protect encrypt your data. We must act responsibly when uploading, downloading, and or posting from or to the cloud...let us control our impulsive fingers...let us not be like our current president..

Web 3.0...here now??

The World Wide Web and the debatable issue that we are entering Web 3.0 as many claim we are still very much in learn mode with Web 2.0. So, what is Web 2.0? Web 2.0 can be defined as an interactive and social web which facilitates collaboration. Software includes sites such as zoom.com, google docs, Kahoot.com, blogger.com, amongst others. Web 2.0 has been popular since approximately 2004. Prior to 2004 we had access to Web 1.0. Web 1.0 was mostly aimed for businesses to sell consumers a product. People read websites but there was no interaction component as we see with Web 2.0 Think of ot as Web 1.0 representing Netscape. Where Netscape promoted a “webtop” to replace a desktop, and Google representing Web 2.0. Where Google began its life as a native web application. Never sold or packaged. CSULA Fall 2018. Reflection Post #3

Computational thinking and its four important parts

In Computational thinking we have the decomposition where the problem is sort of broken down to be analyzed in detail, then we have the pattern recognition where the software is able to recognize and utilize patters in the most effective way. We look for similarities with the intention to make predictions. Then we have pattern generalization and abstraction. This is when the previously recognized pattern is seen and evaluated in its most general form. Last, we have the algorithm design. The algorithm design which aids in the development of step by step instruction that solve problems. Teachers find this approach highly effective particularly when trying to solve a difficult concept and or problem.

Recognizing my classmates superb work!!

For this reflection, I have decided to make a video on my feelings and the challenges that I am facing in this course, and in the other coursed we are all taking in order to earn our M.A Degree. I have seen all of my classmates blogs...or most of them...and I must say, WOW! You guys amaze me! How or when did you become so talented?? I can only imagine what your blogs will look like after this course...SUPER amazing!! Writing blogs seems to be so easy, yet, so very challenging...I find that perhaps if we would have created one during class?? maybe??? would have been highly helpful. Just like the videos we have created during class time for EDIT 4510. They are awesome!! I know exactly how to use google hangouts precisely because we practiced hands on during class time. Perhaps is just me, and if so, my apologies. Please know that I am doing the best I can...

Blogger

For this weeks assignments we have been instructed to create a a blog...but I had a major problem...what is a blog? and how do I use it?

rick astley lyrics GIF

After doing a little bit of research I found out that a blog is a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group of people, that is written in an informal or conversational style. "Blog" is an abbreviated version of "weblog," which is a term used to describe websites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. A blog features diary-type commentary and links to articles on other websites, usually presented as a list of entries in reverse chronological order. In other words, a blog is just a site where anyone can post ideas, comments, basic advise, nutritional tips, etc...anything your heart desires...so, I think I will survive this blog thing...
